Does anyone have any good advice on the best dog food(s)?

I did a search, and couldn’t find this “Q”
does anyone have any good advice on the best dog food(s) for small 3 month old puppies?
we have had dogs in the past, but not for over 15 years
what are the best dog foods out there now?
any brands we should stay away from?

thanks

this going to hard to pick a B/A

thank you

Ah, yes. Kudos to you for caring about the food you feed you dogs. First off, stay away from the highly commericialed brands, like: Iams, Purina etc…They are crap. Why? Well, lets start off by saying that the ingredients contains animal parts that are not consumable by human, so instead of wasting it, they threw it in a big churner to make it into kibbles. But wait! That’s not it! When you get your pets put down at the vet, some offices may offer to take the body. Where does that body go? Well, people come and pick them up and throw them in that lovely churner as well! Not to mention, farm animals that die also get mixed in there. So now you have, dead animals in there (including roadkill) and unhealthy animal parts. Not to mention, the dead animal that’s thrown in there will most likely have some sort of shot before it died. So your dog will be consuming that as well. Sometimes, if you pick up the Iams Kibbles, you can see hair in it. That’s cause the full body of the animal was crushed in with the meal. Appetizing, right? So after they make it into kibbles, they just smack on a cute commercial and people buy it! Once again, that is for brands that are generally advertised.

Brands you want to feed your dogs are brands with a primary (and secondary) ingredients of meat products. Blue Buffalo (what my dog is on now), has both its primary and secondary ingredient of meat products. Yes, the meat products are what we are able to consume, not what we aren’t. As well, you want to stay away from starch (corn) as that is bad for your dog. I’m not going to be bias about each brand because I feed my dog Blue Buffalo (no worries!). Royal Canin is also very good, and it was one of my choices, but the vet reccommended Blue Buffalo for me. Don’t always listen to vets, because when it comes down to nutrition (as in BRANDS of food, not what to and what not to eat) they know almost nothing. Actually, vets go through only 2 days of schooling in dog food, so I can almost say that I know more than what a vet would know (I’m serious, not boasting around!). Royal Canin has its primary ingredient as a meat product and secondary as a vegetable product (I believe, I know it does not have its primary and secondary product as meat. I did research on it when I was deciding my brand). My third suggestion is Solid Gold, which is also a very very good brand. My cousin’s 7 year old Basset Hound is on it now. Another brand you might want to look into is Halo (it is good, I’ve done some research!).

Here’s a website that’s good for comparing food brands:

Also, the better quality food you buy for your dog, the less you will have to feed it. My friend’s dog is on Iams (I’ve tried convincing her, but she doesn’t quite care), and she feeds her puppy (I also have a puppy right now) 3 and half cups per meal, while I feed my puppy 1 cup per meal (3 meals a day, since they are puppies). The better the food, the longer the bag will last you. So in the end, it’s really more beneficial. My bag of dog food cost about 70 bucks, Iams cost about 25 bucks. The bag of dog food lasts me 8 weeks right now, but Iams lasts my friend 2 and a half weeks. So really, whats more worth it? In those 8 weeks, I’d spend 70 bucks, but for her, she’d spend around 80 bucks on dog food!! That costs more, and is crap for her dog. Getting good food is definately more beneficial for your wallet and your dog!

Hope I helped!
