What supplies do I need as a 1st dog owner and what is the overall cost?

I can’t wait to become a dog owner and I need to know what supplies to buy. I plan on buying an Australian Shepherd.

Hmmm where to begin…

Well first you may want to double and triple check if an Australian Shepherd is the best breed for you. They are extremely active dogs and without the proper amount of attention and stimulants they can be destructive. If you have an active lifestyle (running, camping, walks) then yes I think you will enjoy your new companion and be able to tire him out! Now if you feel like maybe you would rather sit inside and enjoy a movie or have guests over and have a bbq on your weekends, then I would possibly look into other breeds.

Now as far as supplies go, you won’t need too much…

Comfortable Bedding $35+
Water and Food Dish $20
Large Bag of Dog Food $35+
Toys and Stimulants $25+
Crate (if you plan on crating your dog) $85
Collar and Leash $15+
Brush (Long Hair breed are high maintenance!) $10
Treats =) $10+
Vaccinations/Deworming as a puppy $85+

So we are looking at around $320 to start off on the right foot. If you aren’t familiar with crating a dog, I would definately look into it, it gives them a “safe place” and also some “personal space” that I believe a dog really needs.
